London, England

London, England

London is the capital city of England. About nine million people live there. It is one of the biggest cities in Europe. A large river called the Thames runs through the middle of the city. Many big museums in London are free. You do not pay to go in. The British Museum and the Natural History Museum are two good examples. This is great for visitors and for people who live in the city. People from many different countries live in London. More than 300 languages are spoken there. On some streets, you can hear four or five different languages. This mix of people has changed the food and culture of the city. London is a good place to practise English. Many people there speak English as a second language, so you do not need to feel nervous. You can also hear many different accents. This helps you understand English in real life. The underground train system in London is called the Tube. It has eleven lines and more than 270 stations. It is a good way to travel around the city. In the morning and evening, the trains are usually very crowded. London has many parks, and they are free and open every day. Greenwich Park is a special one. It is the place where people measure time around the world. You can stand on the exact spot and take a photo. Homes in London are expensive. It costs a lot to rent a flat in the centre. Many people live outside the centre and travel to work by train or Tube every day.
