The year was 2471. People did not remember sandwiches. Why? There were many problems: bad weather, angry computers, and people stopped eating bread. Sandwiches were just gone. People forgot them. Like old passwords. Or where Belgium is. Then there was Marla. Marla saved old things. She was very quiet. Her clothes looked like an old, broken printer. One day, Marla found an old computer file. It said "Lunch Ideas". Inside, there were funny pictures and work papers. Then she saw it. A picture of a BLT sandwich. Marla looked at the picture for a long time. Two pieces of bread! Strange! Inside: bacon, green leaves, and tomato. It looked like hope. Marla did not know "mayo". But she felt it was very special. Marla needed to make this sandwich. Her adventure started. She went to a special place to get wheat for bread. She traded things with pig farmers on boats. (The boats used bacon fat for power!). She found green leaves in an old plant room. "Good enough", she said quietly. She used a small flying machine to take a tomato from a big farm computer. The computer got angry and tried to complain using 0s and 1s. Finally, Marla made the sandwich. She started to eat it. Suddenly, a man opened the door with a kick! He wore a long, old coat. He shouted, "Wait! What about tacos?!" Marla did not stop eating. "Too late", she said quietly. She kept chewing. The world did not change fast. But one week later, someone remembered pickles. Then someone remembered cheese. Then soup in a bread bowl! Life got better again in a funny way. Marla travels a lot. She teaches children how to make sandwiches. She puts food together carefully. She wears a cape made of lettuce. Sometimes she talks to bread like a friend. But that's okay. She is the sandwich hero.
