London is the capital city of England. About nine million people live there. It is one of the biggest cities in Europe. A large river called the Thames runs through the middle of the city. People from many different countries live in London. More than 300 languages are spoken there. On some streets, you can hear four or five different languages. You can also hear many different accents. This helps you understand English in real life. The underground train system in London is called the Tube. It has eleven lines and more than 270 stations. It is a good way to travel around the city. In the morning and evening, the trains are usually very crowded. London has many parks, and they are free and open every day. Greenwich Park is a special one. It is the place where people measure time around the world. You can stand on the exact spot and take a photo. Homes in London are expensive. It costs a lot to rent a flat in the centre. Many people live outside the centre and travel to work by train or Tube every day.
